To begin with, this approval process is a journey. My situation with my mother was a bit more complicated in that she was slightly over the allowed income and had a modest savings in her checking account. This required me to open two different types of Trusts. I would never have been able to do this on my own. Joanna helped me every step of the way. She guided me through all the forms and procedures. When I became overwhelmed, she was able to bring me back to the step by step process. She is VERY knowledgeable about ALTCS. Because of her knowledge and efficiency my application was approved on the first try. It does take time to gather all the documents and create the trusts. My journey was about 7 months.
I cannot say enough about Joanna and the great job that she did for me and my mom during this very difficult time. Senior Planning has a winner with her.

They're very patient and knowledgeable and kept things moving. They would tell me what ALTCS needed, and send me on my way to get it. This process did take longer than it should have, BUT it was mostly due to errors and delays from the facility were my mother is living. Overall I am very happy with Senior Planning. Senior Planning was a lifesaver for me. As luck would have it, I started researching ALTCS (Arizona Long Term Care System) to find a daily caregiver for my mom, who lived alone at the time. Although she was already receiving state assistance, I had read that qualifying for additional help can be quite difficult when trying to navigate the process alone. There are many intricacies that we’re not familiar with since we don’t deal with them regularly, and one missed step could mean starting the entire process over again.

After learning this, I realized that Senior Planning was exactly what I needed. Thank goodness I did! Just two months after I began the process, my mom fell and was hospitalized for rehabilitation. During her stay, tests revealed that her dementia had progressed significantly, and she had been hiding it from me. Her cognitive scores were very low, and the rehab facility recommended 24/7 care in an assisted living environment since she could no longer live alone.

I immediately contacted Marcie, our Senior Planning medical advocate. She quickly arranged interviews and completed the necessary paperwork for ALTCS to approve my mom's transition to full-time assisted living care within a week of her discharge from rehab. Senior Planning handled everything for us, collecting all the required documentation and ensuring that my mom was approved on the first attempt.

I cannot speak highly enough of Senior Planning. They truly saved my mom's life.

The process for ALTCS approval is long and cumbersome but senior planning experts really made it possible.
